Absolutely ingenious, invaluable, indispensable app/device of the week.

Bacon. You know you love it. Everyone loves it. I only eat turkey bacon, which I have been told isn't real bacon, but I still love bacon. I even like the word. Bacon Bacon Bacon.

So what to do if you don't have access to it, or just can't get enough of the 'ambiance' of bacon; the smell, the sound of it sizzling? Well, as is the case with everything else, there's an app - and even an associated device that plugs into your iPhone - for that.

None other than Oscar Meyer (just get your wiener jokes out of the way right now) has released a...thing, that's it in the header image, called 'Wake up and smell the bacon.' It's a device that plugs into your iPhone, and you use it like an alarm, however when it goes off it not only plays a sound of bacon sizzling, it actually emits the scent of bacon cooking from the device! Your nose holes will thank you forever.

Don't have an iPhone? Well Yankee Candle is there to pick up the slack.

Here's a video that shows the glory that Oscar Meyer has bestowed on us all. Bacon!

This is such a genius idea!!!! I already hate waking up to an annoying alarm. The fact that the alarm is the sound of bacon cooking is really cool. Of course the best part is that the devise releases the small of bacon. Personally I do not like the taste of bacon but I like the smell so this would work perfectly. Technology is coming so far. This devise is just like you said absolutely ingenious. Now if it was able to emit the scent of coffee brewing I would be sold! I cannot wait to see what other sounds and smells they Oscar Meyer or anyone else will come up with. This is product that I can see making a lot of money because of all the bacon stuff that has come out lately.

    2. I think it's ingenious, however CRAZY! I myself am not a bacon person, I don't mind the alarm on my phone waking me up, it's actually a soothing tone. Although I agree with you that if they came up with coffee, that would be a concept. I also agree with the fact that so much is being made out there that it would not surprise me how many other things could be done with this concept.

  2. Hahaha well looking at this with a business mind set there in a good path because they are now attacking a new consumer. Meaning that maybe people like the small but can't have it because there vegetarian, or allergic to it not only that but it shows the transition of food and electronics combining for a bigger move

  3. I already have a hard time waking up to the basic iPhone alarm, but with the addition of this bacon alert, It would make waking up easier. Oscar Meyer is a genius for creating this and its only a matter of time before it goes big.

  4. I myself do not eat Bacon, I know I am a FREAK!!! Haha!!! But I know so many people who just have to have anything mentioning that 5 letter word so I know for a fact that this will do well! This was extremely great advertising on O.M.'s marketing team. I know this will do well! Cannot wait for it to be available at our local stores out here in Las Vegas!!!!

  5. I really do not know what to say here. I love bacon, but not on my night stand. I do not like the idea of simulating items like smell into technology. I don't know how that can be good for you.

  6. The commercial was well made. Good marketing job. I, although, rarely eat bacon unless it is made with turkey. I have an iPhone and I could not imagine wasting my money to buy the app or my time to install such a useless item. But a fad will be a fad thanks to creative marketing.

  7. Haha wow, they have an app for everything. The funny thing is people still downloads it. It's interesting how people can come up with it, but in a business perspective, if people downloads it and I make money out of it, I wouldn't even care if it's useless and doesn't really benefit the users. I do love bacon though! LOVE IT!

  8. Well this is just great. I am trying to lose weight and get into shape and then you show me this. I am a fat girl who loves bacon but hates the affect it has on my body. I agree with Stephanie about the coffee sent. That is still something that I can have and I also love the smell. Folgers In your cup... Only if I had a wish, it would be to be able to eat all of the bacon I wanted and not get fat. Smelling bacon would make me crave bacon which would make me eat the bacon. So this app is not for the weak. I love the idea.

  9. What will they think of next. I think they could put their focus on more important things, but I guess if someone wants it and they're willing to pay for it, they should be able to get it. It does sound a little ridiculous though. Really, bacon smell, yuck. To me thats like saying, I'll make a fart app. Wait a minute that might actually work, don't steal my idea, I'm calling Google.

  10. Oh boy oh boy BACON !!!!!!! Great idea for an app. Love the commercial too, very well thought out and funny. I can just imagine my dogs going bonkers over my phone every morning cause of the smell of bacon emitting. The thought of my dogs and bacon reminds me of this Youtube video >> http://youtu.be/nGeKSiCQkPw which involves a guy teasing his dog about eating bacon. I can't imagine what other people would come out next. Possibly a cologne app in which it sprays the right amount or an air freshener app. I can imagine if someone made a fart app with an attachment pulling of some funny pranks, just like in elementary school when kids start popping fart bombs.

  11. I love turkey bacon as well! Any bacon actually, but I try to stick with the turkey since it’s healthier for me. This device is incredible! Every day I struggle with waking up. I am just not a morning person and it sucks. When my mom is cooks or makes coffee at 6 AM, it seems like I wake up faster. I think this device would be me good, because I would definitely wake up for food, but then I would just be fooled because I would be starving and have to go cook my own food. I really think this device is good for people who wake up to the smell of food, especially bacon; it has such a strong, but good smell.

  12. This one I think is a bit much. I'm sure it is fun and entertaining. I do not think this is something I would use. Smelling food would be just as bad as when you talk about food and next thing you know you are craving that food. I eat a lot and this app would not be a good thing for me. It will be interesting to see if this app really takes off big.
