Who would have guessed?

With the announcement of the new iPhone, one of the biggest bits of news - for reasons I haven't yet figured out - is that will come in a not-quite-rainbow of colors. In fact, it was mentioned in class that some will be available in gold. And the most popular color according to the the pre-orders? Yellow. Go figure.

Color is a big deal to Apple and its products, and has been all the way back to the original iMac, which was available in colors like, and I'm not kidding about this, 'Blueberry.'

It was also true of the iPod nano which came in a spectrum of hues, even the original iPhones would tease consumers with an early version of color, that is, black and white. Strange the current iMacs don't come in colors but who knows? We may see it yet.

The only color I would ever consider getting is orange. Sadly, there's never been a phone in that color as of yet. But I'm waiting.

  1. I think Apple has done it's research on human psychology and it's a brilliant way to "re-introduce" a product and create more interest. Everyone likes to have their own identity, and by introducing new colors, people can now choose a color that they feel best represents their personality. Just as we discussed in class when people were asked why they wanted the white iPhone instead of the black one, "Well...because it's white!" It's a way to stand out from others, perhaps in their social circle. I think a cool iPhone case can achieve the same effect and it doesn't cost $200, but that's just me.

  2. What’s the difference between the iPhone 5C & 5S? Color is all about personalization, people love their things personalized.

I’m not sure if I’d ever switch to the iPhone, but if I did I’d get the blue or green :)

    1. 5S is the higher end model, the direct successor to the previous iPhone 5. It has a fingerprint scanner, more solid metal design, much faster processor, additional motion sensors, better camera, and some other performance tweaks that make it a phone for phone power users, if there is such a thing. And it's more expensive, of course. If you only use a phone for light web browsing, making calls and sending texts, the 5C is fine.

  5. I like the fact that a variety of colors are offered. Having just two options white or black was rather boring. The different colors encourage originality. The best part for me about the iphone 5 is that it offers consumers a cheaper version.
