Floppy disk table!

Those three words don't make a lot of sense, but if you remember the 3 1/2-inch floppy disk I showed in class, then imagine it as a table, well suddenly the pieces all fall in to place, don't they?

It even has the same amount of storage.

Why would you want one of these? Why would you want something from the 80's / 90's magnified and turned into a piece of living-room furniture? You'd want it for the most obvious reason of all:

Because. You. Can.

You can buy one here if you're interested, and if you don't mind their terrible web page, and if you can get their contact page to work, and if you don't care that they're hand-made in Germany with no price listed.

  1. How hilarious is the table. The things people come up with are either amazing or uncomprehensible. I wonder if this is considered art. Personally, I would not buy the table. Where would I put it? However, it may be a great piece of furniture for the lobby of a computer company.

  2. This table is like so many odd things; you can’t help but wonder why would someone want that? To make a statement and like you stated, because you can have one. A piece of furniture like this signifies originality, it’s definitely a talking piece and it even has a place to store stuff (even better!) People have their own style and it even looks like you can get the metal plate engraved from the pictures. If your into computer accessories and things that make a statement then this is probably the table for you!

  3. I think the table is kind of neat. I would not purchase one but I can see my dad getting excited about this. This is definitely something that a big computer company should have in their lobby because it attracts attention and shows how far we have come in technology. How someone came up with the idea to create a floppy disk table I do not know. I love the fact that they created it so that you can move the metal piece and store things inside. They made it like it was a working floppy disk only it won’t fit into a computer or store data but it can still store items.

  4. I actually thought the table was pretty cool, however when I went to the website it was extremely outdated. There was no pricing or ordering options on the website itself, you had to email them just to order one, which I thought was strange. I am not sure why they would not make their website more user friendly. I am sure they won't be selling too many of these tables until they make them easier to purchase.

  5. Like the floppy-disk itself, the website for that company is completely outdated and hard to look at. The website was very hard to get around and doesn't give you any information regarding the object they are trying to sell. The only thing that you can do is email the person regarding information you want on the table. (price, shipping fee, how long to deliver, etc.) I personally would never purchase this table, but like Heather Ibarra stated at the top, it would be a great piece of furniture for the lobby of a computer company.

  6. I think someone was being very creative. I think there would be some collectors who would be interested in this piece of furniture. The table provides a little nostalgia with a little whimsy and function (storage).

I think this table is awesome and hilarious at the same time. It represents how big those old floppy’s used to be and that it only has a little bit of space for storage. I would definitely buy it, not just for me but for my kids. They love everything and anything to do with computers, from old to new, and when I showed them this floppy disk table, they cracked up and asked me to get one for them. Now that I think about it, that table would be great for their gaming room. I might just buy one as a family Christmas gift.

  9. I must say, whoever made this table and the website to go along with is very clever. Overall, it is quite comical. Clearly, the manufacturers and website designer are making a statement about early 1990's technology. Yes, I know that floppy disks go back even before the 90's, however the format of the website reminded me of the late 80's/early 90's web format. I know some people who would be seriously interested in this table, especially since it is a pretty accurate replica of a 3 1/2 inch floppy disk. However, when I looked it up to try and find a price, the "This Is Why I'm Broke" website listed it at $900. No thank you!

  10. I think that it is an okay design. Although it is unique. There would have been a few modifications that I would like to add on it though. Instead of receiving one remote by moving the metal disk cover. Why not have a rotating tray that you can add multiple remotes in it; then open the sliding metal cover to get it. To lock the rotating internal tray would be the flip switch. On on floppy's the little square switch that you slid up or down would lock the write of the floppy, that could be used as a locking mechanism for the internal rotating tray. I really wouldn't want that thing in my house though. The cost for that desk is ridiculous and could be used for other / better furniture.

  11. I love this table! A floppy disk as a table is a great idea. It serve's two purposes 1. its a table and 2. it has storage. Its something fun and different to have in your house. This could be a great conversation starter when you have over company.

  12. I would purchase the table solely because I like odd and unique items like this. Think the useful storage is unique for hiding thing, especially if a person other than yourself doesn't know how to slide it open.

  13. I actually want one. I like unusual pieces and if they symbolize technology, that makes furniture even better. There should be more ways that we can integrate computer parts into our everyday life. I was watching '2 1/2 Men" and they had 3 couch pillows that said CTL, ALT, and DEL (one word on each pillow). I thought this was cool. Yes I am a bit of a geek, but I think the items that you have in your home reflect your type of personality. This piece would defiantly be popular with kids, if they know what a floppy disk is these days.
