Big Apple (Computer) Day today

If you haven't been following the lead up to Apple's big unveiling event, you can see Engadget's live blog of what's going on by following this link. The iPhone 5 is the big deal everyone is going crazy over, what with it's bigger screen and better internals, however I am more excited for the iPod touch. Ars Technica is rumoring it will have a bigger screen, retina display, better camera, and GPS capabilities. Sadly, there is no mention of a bigger capacity. If they bump it to 128GB, I will get one tomorrow. If not, Zune from eBay here I come!

Anyone following this? Anyone care? Anyone excited for the new iPhone? These things are always incredibly fun, or monumentally disappointing - we'll have to wait and see.

  1. I do not have an iPhone but I do think its is amazing how people go crazy over these things. I like my toys, and yes my phone falls under the "toys" label, but to spend the amount of money the are asking for on a phone I DO NOT THINK SO! I Paid $200 each for mine and my husband's phones and that was a lot. Although I will give credit to apple for coming up with all kinds of news things that people seem to not be able to live without. They have defiantly been able to build a loyal customer base.

  2. I was just looking at an article about the new iPhone before I checked this blog. I do not own an iPhone but my fifteen year old son does. All I could think when reading through the article was that my son is going to ask for this new phone. I will have to tell him I am not buying a new one. If you do not buy this phone without a contract is something like $800 for the phone. I just cannot justify buying a phone for that much. Also, when I was looking at the picture of the new phone to me it looks exactly the same as the 4s. Am I missing something??

    1. It does look very similar, although it is made from new materials (brushed aluminum on the back being the big change, instead of chrome) and the screen is bigger. Normally, announcements like this focus on the internals. So it has a new dual-core processor, better camera, faster response time, leaner architecture as evidenced by its thinness, improved functionality, and so on.

So it does offer improvements, but whether they're enough to convince people to upgrade is up to the customers.

  3. I have been follow what's happen with Apple for a while. I know that their getting ready to launch iphone 5 the 21st of this month and after Friday it is going into 22 different countries. I kinda think it is a little fast for the iphone 5 to becoming out this soon. I was planning on getting its predecessor 4S near Christmas time.

I plan on doing research and waiting to see how people like the iphone 5 to see if it is better than the last version.

  4. Like I mentioned before, I do not own any other Apple product except for an iPod Nano and that is the only thing I plan on owning for a very long time. I think it is absolutely insane that people go crazy for things like a phone. The price is just ridiculous and not only that, but technology is making everything more stressful. People expect computers to solve everything. The communication line with people is broken and they are speaking to eachother through technology (i.e. text messaging). Most people remain oblivious to the fact that the "new" phones are duplicates of the previous ones (with the exception of maybe one new feature) and they end up paying twice as much.

  5. To me, this is just a phone. I find it ridiculous that these companies can charge so much for a phone. My mom, mother-in-law and sister-in-law all have the iPhone 4 and my brother is counting down the days until the iPhone 5 is released. I guess my husband and I need to get with the times, but I can think of so many other things I would like to spend my time and money on.

  6. Although I won't get another phone for a while, I have to say that I'm curious about the iPhone 5's `better camera'.

A former co-worker let me use the iPhone 4S camera and I was thoroughly impressed. So if Apple keeps making better cameras all the time, it's possible that I'll see little point in buying a prosumer cam.

  7. I think this new touch screen and possible duel processor is pretty intense. I don't have a smart phone, but I do have an iTouch and I have to say if the iPhone 5 is going have this type of screen the only down fall I see with this new technology is that the mini machine will either be to narrow, the screen might be more fragile then the iTouch, and picture may be small. But as far as everything else is concerned I think this new machine will be one of the newest high speed technologies that is out there. However, if they could work on their battery power life when using 4G then it would be so much more.
