Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn passwords stolen

There were some other sites as well, but these were the big ones. The article I'm linking below talks a lot about Botnets and Keyloggers and what makes a good password and things such as that, and we'll be discussing all of that as we wrap up the semester (although if you want to read a scary story about new types of BotNets, just head over to this story on Ars Technica). But just be aware that although the list of stolen passwords from these sites that originated in the U.S. is very small, you should always use robust passwords when first creating them.

How exactly do you do that? There's a hint right here on this page, but I'll just tell you anyway.

Later.

  1. I had already heard of this and changed my passwords that may have been affected. But creating strong passwords that we remember isn't always that easy.

  2. I did not hear about this happening but knowing that it did doesnt sit very well with me. If Facebook, twitter, and Linkedln all got their passwords stolen then it makes me think that it is probably very easy for someone to steal my password. That is an unsettling feeling because I just as everybody else do not want people looking through my personal information. There are a lot of things I do online now because a lot of companies offer there services online and it just makes it easier and more convenient. It may be time to change my passwords that are harder to figure out.

  3. Complacently kills. When I took off a lid to a plastic, yellow, 55 gallon barrel and found mortars, black bullet proof flak's that said "POLICE" in white letters, and bullet proof plates with a name a manufacturer and signature from London. I learned right there and then then that terrorism was a billion dollar business. We were in the middle of the flat desert and at a crossroad there seemed to be a 10 dump trucks of a dirt pile. It was a dead give away. To tie my story into this the hack. the fight is online for currency to operate terrorism. We must take the fight to them online. I don't know how they do it but I am sure they have something figured out. Does the web have boarders? such as water land and air? I know a website can be secured but does have boarders? I would move to say no. I welcome the discussion.

  4. It seems as if something related to computer hacking is always in the news these days. If it's not password security that is being compromised, it's a corporation's computer laptop being stolen or something of that nature. Unfortunately, it seems as if this topic never gets any better, but rather gradually gets worse. Although there are good tips and tricks out there to help people create strong passwords, the real trick that needs to be taught is how to remember them.

  6. Hacking has become a facet of our everyday life. Considering the speed at which passwords can be hacked I believe we aren't left with too many options other than fixing the mess after the hacking. Their elusive nature makes it hard for a majority of technology users who aren't advanced computer literate making it a field for the hackers. Putting more information out there about hacking will prevent a more susceptible technology user.

  7. Although computers are more efficient than humans, they're still man made and flawed. I attempt to limit the amount of information about my self that's transmitted over the internet by not storing important documents in the cloud or on my hard drive. I keep hard copies of important documents in a safe place.

  8. Hacking has gotten easier and smarter over the past few years. To stay on the twitter topic, I had to create a new twitter because my main one that I had for 2 years was hacked. I had to create an even stronger password that I frequently forgot, but always had it stored somewhere. It is just crazy because I shouldn't have to take it to that extreme level.
